Since 2010, Twitter has been the primary means for book clubbers to communicate with each other, share a joke, confirm dates, book titles and so on.
With the Twitter takeover in October 2022, I was concerned that the site might continue down a path I’m less philosophically aligned too, shall we say. And it did. However, it turns out that it was less that and more a lack of basic functionality that would be the motivator for me to seek alternatives. 🤣
I will miss the ‘bird site’ (as it will always be for me) – there’s no denying that it was pivotal in growing our little book club and has linked me to so many amazing people I might never otherwise have met.
But I survived the rise & fall of live journal, the crash n burn of MySpace, the shifting focus of bebo and hi5. Jumped into the fire of Facebook (& then promptly out of it again!!).
I love the community that we have created. It’s sad to think that will have to change and adjust, however natural and inevitable a part of life that process is. Also – I be old now, I just can’t commit to social networking the way I used to! The thought of ‘Chasing those follows’ makes my knees click ominously.
Nevertheless, here we go:
- Email – LeedsBookClub @ gmail.com
- Mastodon – https://mastodon.social/@drneevil
- Bluesky – https://bsky.app/profile/drneevil.bsky.social
For the time being, I’ll continue to update here (yes, I know, I’ve promised that before!) which feeds through to mastodon & manually update Twitter & Bluesky. Once we know which or what we’ll use going forward, we’ll make a plan.
*Currently it feels like mastodon is more personally suited & bluesky better fid LBC stuff but we’ll see!
Happy reading!
